3 Simple Fishing Tips for Hot Weather

Many anglers will not even bother going out when the weather is hot, but little do they know that they are missing out on some excellent fishing. While it is true that the fishing will slow down when it gets hot, there are still plenty of things you can do to find consistent success. Here are three simple tips to get you ready for fishing in warmer weather!

Fish in the Shade

Hot days means looking for shade, but not for you. Look for shade over the water that the fish can use to stay cool. When the water heats up, fish will seek out shady areas to hang out for the warmest parts of the day. It doesn’t matter if the shade is made from a pier, dock, bridge, or overhanging tree. Seek out these areas and focus your efforts in and around the shaded water. When the temperature reads anything higher than 80 degrees, you will most likely only be catching fish in the shade.

Find Deeper Waters

In addition to the shade, fish will also move into deeper waters as they tend to be much cooler. Water temperatures can drastically change depending on the depth. In fact, they can be around 10 degrees different for every 10 feet of depth you go down. When the weather heats up and there is no shade around, the fish will no doubt head for deeper waters. The problem with this, however, is that they are harder to get too the deeper they are. To get to them, throw on your favorite bottom rigs or deep diving lures.

Go Out at Night

If all else fails and the fish are simply not cooperating due to the extreme heat, mix it up and try fishing after dark. Make sure you pick an area you are already familiar with, as fishing in the dark can be a little more challenging. If there is a full moon out, even beter as fish tend to be more active during a bright night. This will help avoid the hotter temperatures while giving you a chance to focus on their highest activity during the hotter months of the year.
