Why We Hunt and Fish
Why We Hunt and Fish
There’s no denying that the outdoors has been in the public spotlight over the last few years. Hunters and anglers often find themselves being preyed upon by anti-hunters and animal rights activists. Despite this, we often find oursleves defending our actions and beliefs, explaining why we hunt and fish. So why do we do it? What keeps us going even when faced with opposition? There are actually a few things that drive us as hunters and anglers, and each one is just as important as the last.
The Meat
This might be the biggest reason. There is nothing better than filling your freezer with high-quality game meat instead of meat from the grocery store. Whether it is venison from the most recent deer hunt or freshly caught trout, you can’t get more organic than fresh game meat that comes straight from the field. Not only is this meat a lot healthier than anything that you can buy, but you get the satisfaction and enjoyment of providing it yourself. Not to mention just how delicious all natural meat tastes!
Conservation
Understanding how taking an animal out of its population can actually help the species can be a hard thing to get a grasp on. But you cannot argue the facts, and hunting and fishing supports the conservation of the species in the wild. No other group donates as much time or money towards the conservation of North American species than the hunters and anglers who pursue them. There is no denying that we as humans have made a significant impact on the natural world, and have left our mark and disturbed the natural flow of things. Through conservation efforts, we can help alleviate these strains and undo the footprint that we humans have left.
The Experiences
While we all want to find success while out in the field, most outdoorsmen are chasing after something much more important. Most find more enjoyment in things like taking in the landscape, savoring the emotions, and immersing themselves in the hunt and the wilderness. Soaking up everything in a hunt or fishing trip will leave you smiling whether you were able to find success or not. Some of your best memories can be found while out in the field, and you can bet that you will remember these experiences instead of the times spent sitting at home on the couch.
Final Thoughts
Everyone will want to try and tell you why their way is the best, no matter what subject matter it is. When it comes to hunting and fishing, those who don’t participate can have their opinions but there’s no arguing the simple fact that there are many reasons why we do it. By embracing the hunting and fishing experiences, you can embrace the journey and the experiences that come along with it. This is why we hunt and fish.
