Texas Hunting Seasons: When to Go and What to Expect

Texas is a popular destination for hunters looking for a variety of game to pursue. With its vast open spaces and abundant wildlife, it is no wonder why hunters are eager to visit. With that being said, Texas has a wide variety of hunting seasons that stretch from the fall through the spring.

Fall hunting in Texas begins in September and runs through December. During this time, hunters can pursue deer, turkey, quail, dove, and waterfowl. For deer, there are three main seasons. The early season runs from September to late October and is a great time to hunt for white-tailed deer. The late season runs from late December to late January, and is an ideal time for hunters to pursue feral hogs, as well as deer. The archery season runs from September to February and is a great time to hunt for deer, turkey, and feral hogs.

The winter hunting season in Texas runs from December to February and offers hunters the opportunity to pursue waterfowl, rabbits, squirrels, and some species of quail. The winter season is a great time of year for duck hunting, as the birds migrate south. Hunters can also pursue doves, geese, and various species of ducks during this time.

The spring hunting season in Texas runs from March to May and offers hunters the opportunity to pursue turkey, waterfowl, dove, quail, and feral hogs. During the spring season, turkey hunters can pursue the Rio Grande and Eastern subspecies of turkey. The spring season is also a great time to hunt for feral hogs, as they are easier to spot in the open fields.

No matter what game you are looking to pursue, Texas has something for everyone. With its abundant wildlife, open spaces, and varied hunting seasons, it is no wonder why so many hunters flock to the Lone Star State each year. Be sure to check the regulations in your area to ensure you are hunting legally and safely.
